Rescue Matters!

Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue isn't just about saving desperate dogs. We're about giving you and our dogs whole lifetimes of unconditional love!

Doberman Pinchers are the noblest dogs on earth. Thats why we exist. Todays Dobie is smart, fearless, sensitive, loving, watchful, loyal, and dependable. Elegantly beautiful with superior athletic ability and a big sense of humor, your Dobie will give its life to save yours. Fortunately, its famed protective instinct is grounded in legendary good judgment and a truly sweet, playful, and loving temperament.

While its true that the often opinionated Dobie isnt for everyone, it's an excellent family companion for those who know the breed or really want to learn about it. We want to help you!

Who we are. We are an all-volunteer, family-based rescue located in central Phoenix, AZ.  We don't operate for profit and we do not make a profit.

DHDR was founded by a proud member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America. We adhere both to standard good rescue practices and customary good business practices.

Mission. Founded on January 6, 2009, our mission is to rescue placeable purebred Doberman Pinschers in Arizona, evaluate and treat them, and place them in suitable, qualified, and loving forever homes, and to educate the public about this breed and living with a dog.

Our priorities. Our first priority is placeable (fundamentally sound) dogs who are at high risk of death or abuse, dogs on shelter "kill" lists, strays, or foundlings. After that, as resources permit, we accept owner surrenders whose owners are willing to help with the cost of a mandatory veterinary intake exam and spay or neuter.

How we can help. For every dog that's rescued, ten others will die. We strive to ensure that the dogs we save are fundamentally sound, stable, and loving Dobermans worth that sacrifice Let us help you find your Dobe.

What do we do? First, we screen our dogs for health, temperament, and history. Second, we give each dog an intake medical evaluation, including a physical exam and hematology and clinical chemistry panels for organ function, anemia, and other baseline checks. Third, we also test for Valley fever, tick fever, and heartworm. And fourth, we check for parasites, ova, and giardia. Finally, we work closely with you to find the right dog for your home and your lifestyle. For a happy-ever-after partnership, your Dobie will expect you to be loving, informed, alert, and consistent, and always a patient, kind, respectful, and responsible Dober dad or mom. If you qualify, please contact us.

For more about Dobies, how to adopt a Dobie and how to volunteer and support us, we invite you to browse these pages. If you have questions, we want you to contact us  (please be sure to leave your name and phone number or we can't respond).

Thanks for supporting Doberman rescue!

Disclosure: We plan to file for nonprofit status the summer of 2010. However, currently we are not an IRS-501c3 nonprofit organization. This means that, although every dime we receive goes to pay legitimate rescue expenses, your contributions are not tax deductible at this time.  While we await our own 501c3 status, we proudly operate under the auspices of one of the most respected 501c3 breed rescues in AZ, Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue.
