She’s only about 2 years old and has the energy to prove it! She seems to be good with other dogs, as long as she has a proper introduction.  She does well with older children. She has learned that chasing cats is not a desirable trait but will need further training in that area. Aurora is in LOVE with balls and thrives on playing fetch! This kid needs someone with an active lifestyle.  She loves hiking and would probably make a wonderful running partner.  She will thrive in a home with structure and a patient, loving owner.

Said to be 10 years young, Belle could have fooled us!  This contemporary “senior” loves toss and fetch and playing with water bottles. She’s great with dogs of all sizes, and fine with kids, children, and cats, too.  We know of no downsides—well, except that she chases goats. So as long as you don’t have a goat, she’s good to go! Belle would be an awesome companion for any family, but ideal for a moderately active individual or a family who is fond of walking and has room to play fetch. If you’re looking for the typical “velcro” Dobie, we don’t think you can go wrong with la belle Belle!

Sedona has a strong prey drive, so we do not suggest that she goes to a home with small animals, but she does seem to be quite dog-social and gets along great with her bigger foster-brother.  We have been unable to observe her behavior around children. She is crate trained and housebroken, but needs just a little bit of reminding of her basic commands. Sedona absolutely loves to play with rope toys and balls, and adores belly rubs! She is splendid on the leash and is a “professional snuggler” according to her foster mom. She would be perfect for an older couple looking for a pooch that is less active and just oozes affection and adoration. Belly rubs, kisses, hugs, and snuggles are all things that this girl will NEVER tire of!

This lovely lady is crazy smart and is doing great with her obedience and house manners in her foster home! Millie is housebroken, crate-trained, and is a good walker. She does okay with some dogs, but we think that she would blossom brightest as a single fur-kid, and she doesn’t do well with cats. She has proven herself good with older children as long as they are Dobe savvy.
Millie has quite the personality! She has quickly figured out that the laser light actually comes from the person and will no longer chase it, but loves to play with toys and to play with the water from a hose. Oranges and ice cubes seem to be some of her favorite snacks, and she has an affinity for butter, though we don’t suggest she indulge in that very much. She is very loving and can be protective of her home and family. Millie really needs someone who is active and can run with her to work off that excess youngster energy! As well as having a play pal, Millie needs a strong owner who will not let her get away with misbehaving. Someone who will consistently continue her training is a must. In return she will willingly give you a lifetime of loyalty and undying love and affection.

Poor thing was surrendered to us because – get this – she required “too much love and attention.” She really needs someone who will give her that desired affection right back and someone who will be her best friend for life. She is by far, one of the sweetest Dobermans to come though our rescue and shows the resilience rescue dogs have.  Brandy does well with other dogs, but would need to be watched with cats. When it comes to kids she is all wiggles and kisses. She is gentle and patient and would be happy in a home with lots of people to shower her with love.  Her house manners are exemplary. Her foster parents are working with her on obedience and leash manners, as well exercise as she could stand to loose a few pounds.  This wonderful dog’s eyes “could steal a sailor from the sea!”

Whether it’s due to age or a poor diet, we aren’t sure, but his teeth needed some serious work when he arrived and his molars were infected and had to have 2 removed.  Now that he’s feeling better, we can see his personality start to shine.  This boy is a super sweet distinguished gentleman, and if he were any more laid back, he’d fall right over!  He loves his daily walks and sniffing anything in his way.  We think he may have some age-related hearing loss, but it could just be selective hearing.  He sure perks up when you say “treat!”  Bowie does splendidly in the house and has not had a single accident.  He gets along well with other dogs, male and female, large and small.  We are still unsure of how comfortable he is around cats and children, but his current personality makes us think neither would pose a problem.  He is not overly protective, and his foster parents joke that he has no barker because they haven’t heard him make a peep once. Bowie loves car rides and his favorite thing to do is shake hands. He willingly offers his paw, asking for love and affection.

An affectionate, people-oriented girl, she will gladly accept as many pets and cuddles as you want to give. She will greet you with excitement at the door, but settles patiently at your feet while you lounge or type–the perfect companion. Her foster home is currently teaching her the basics in obedience and reports that she is an exceptionally quick learner!  She picked up sit and down in a day.  Esme was found as a stray and is likely a terrier mix, resembling two rare breeds: The American and German Hunt Terriers. Weighing in around 25 lbs, she is the perfect size for apartment or condo dwellers.  She gets along very well with other dogs her size or smaller, and with proper introduction can also do well with larger dogs. Esme does great with cats as well, respectfully giving them their own space. She is patient and polite around children with good dog manners.  She enjoys long walks on the grass, affection, car rides, stuffed animals, and – YUMM – hot dog bits! Brought to us through PACC911, Esme is technically not a Doberman. However, she certainly has a dober personality, with the markings to boot! She is protective, sensitive, affectionate, and a velcro leaner. If you want a dog that is not very vocal but will alert you to visitors, this girl and her impressive bark are for you. She is housebroken, aims to please, and comes reliably when called. She is also an exceptionally polite walker on-lead.  Esme is young–approximately 1 year–so she has many years of love to give. Because she is so young, she is also still a chewer and would greatly benefit from being crated while left alone. Leaving chew toys and toys stuffed with kibble and enticing treats in the crate is an easy way to teach her appropriate chewing habits.  Esme is a sweet, loving girl who needs a kind yet firm owner to help her build more confidence.  Anyone would be lucky to spend their evenings with her on their lap.

He was rescued from a county shelter where he was a stray.  Who wouldn’t come looking for this beautiful boy?!  Rufus is great with all dogs and children, and adores car rides.  One of his favorite games with his Doberman foster brother is TUG.  Unfortunately, he has picked up on the fact that cats are plotting to take over the world, and enjoys chasing them a bit too much for comfort.  He already knows basic obedience and is house trained, as well as crate trained. He sleeps through the night without making a peep.  Rufus never gets on the furniture and loves to play ball in the yard and chew on beef bones!  He has a very sweet personality and loves to be with people, but isn’t too pushy when it comes to affection.  Instead, if you forget to pet him, he will gently rest his head on your lap and patiently wait for you to notice he needs some ear scratches.  He’s happy just being with you, sharing the same moment in time.

He says:

“Hey all, I’m Dekan! I’m 2.5 years old and boy do I love life!!  If I had someone who would run run run with me and throw a ball all day I’d be happier than a kid with a lollipop! I have yet to meet a person or a dog I don’t like, so any and all are welcome to hang with this pooch! We can play with some tennis balls or chew on some big fat rawhides (which I LOVE)! My foster-people are teaching me some manners and skills, but it’s hard to memorize all them words and actions, so I’ll probably need your help with keepin it in my mind. I’m trying real hard to learn ‘em cause I sure do love the hugs and kisses and attention I get when I do something right! Ain’t nothing better than a good solid hug from someone who loves you! I’m also quite proud of myself for being able to sleep through the night in my crate without a peep. Well, I hope my charm worked on ya! Hopefully we can meet up soon for a ball game and take it from there?”
]]> http://azdoberescue.org/content/1632/feed 0 Gordon http://azdoberescue.org/content/1635 http://azdoberescue.org/content/1635#comments Mon, 09 Jan 2012 01:54:49 +0000 SGT http://azdoberescue.org/?p=1635 Gordon aka “Gordo” is most likely a German Pinscher mix.  He has natural ears, a docked tail, and his dew claws have not been removed.  He gets along with dogs of all sizes.  We don’t know his behavior around cats.  He would do best in a home without children.  He was a neglected stray who weighed only 26 lbs when turned into the Arizona Humane Society.  Gordo is still adjusting to being crated as it seems he spent tortured extended time in one, perhaps for breeding puppy/mill purposes.  He needs an owner who will be consistent and patient in teaching him proper house manners so he can be trusted in the home, unsupervised.  PS – “Gordo” means “fat” in Spanish! He’s not quite there, but it’s better than before when he was “demasiado flaco” or too skinny.

Gordo says:

“Hello! My name is Gordon, Gordo for short! Boy oh boy, am I glad that DHDR took me in! I had been in bad shape and was so skinny it hurt! But thanks to these folks I’m back at the top of my game and I’m ready for a real home now. The vet last weighed me in at 38.4 lbs, and they think I may be a German Pinscher because I’m so much smaller than a regular Doberman. I’m about 2 years old and love to play, especially with socks! I’m still learning some house manners, but I’m learning quickly. I really like the door in the back that lets me go in and out as I please. Aren’t people great?! They do so much for me, I am so grateful! Hopefully my new, forever home will have another dog for me to play with.”
