Congratulations on the adoption of your Doberman!
Thank you for supporting Arizona’s shelter systems, many of which are valued DHDR partners.
At Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue of Arizona, we’d like to be a friend and resource to you, even if you did not adopt from us! Below are a variety of ways we can be of service to you before or after you have adopted from the shelter, and if we’ve missed anything, or you just want to introduce yourself, email us at contact@azdoberescue.org.

Integrating Your New Doberman at Home (Tip: read this before you adopt, or on day 1!)
The shelter and adjustment process can be very stressful for a Doberman. We highly recommend the following approaches to integrating a new Doberman into your home:
- The Slow Intro – a guide to slowly bringing together new and existing animals.
- The Dobie Decompression – a guide to integrating your new Doberman into your life and avoiding common issues.
Free and Discounted Training & Sports
Dobermans were made to work, and the more training and activities you match to their needs, the better. Your Doberman will be happier, less anxious, and better behaved if he/she gets to work. Check out:

- Our Dobersports Facebook group, where experts and newbies come together to share tips and classes in the Valley.
- Our Trainer page to find the right trainer for you.
- Reach out to us at contact@azdoberescue.org, or any of our social media inboxes, if you are struggling with behavioral issues, and we can connect you with the right resources.
Join our Facebook Group to connect with other Doberman owners. This is a great place to share photos, ask questions, and stay connected to fun events and Dober-happenings. This group is moderated by an admin, so rest assured that it is a supportive and positive atmosphere for people and dogs from all walks of life.

Health and Veterinary Support
If you are looking for a Doberman Veterinarian, check out our Vet Partners. Dobermans also have common health issues like Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Wobbler Syndrome, Hip Dysplasia, Von Willebrand Disease, and more. If you run into any of these conditions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We can provide you with initial recommendations and resources so you are not starting from the ground up.
Surrender Resources
Sometimes new adoptions do not work out. DHDR is here to help you find ways to keep your new Doberman, and if that is not possible, we take in surrendered Dobermans, so that the Doberman does not have to go back to the shelter. You can learn more about our Surrender Process and online Surrender Form here.
